About Jen

Fancy Jen goes first ’cause she wants to bring home some (preferably a lot of) bacon.

Official Bio: Jen Gregory is a writer, blogger, and founder of The Runaway Mama, a website and connected social media outlets where she chronicles the wild, exhausting, and sticky ride of motherhood with a mixture of humor and heart.

Her writing has been published on Huffington Post, Scary Mommy, Mamalode, Sammiches & Psych Meds, and The Mighty to name a few, she’s been featured numerous times on the TODAY Parents and Perfection Pending weekly “Funny Parents of Facebook” lists, and she is a cast member in the 2018 “Listen To Your Mother North Jersey” show.

She wouldn’t want to be anywhere else except home raising her two boys, but like the little bunny in Margaret Wise Brown’s classic book, she sometimes wants to run away. Follow her journey on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

If you’re interested in working with her, hiring her, or giving her tips on how to get her kids to eat vegetables, email her at therunawaymama@gmail.com.

And now for Fun Jen.

Unofficial Bio: I’ve been a dancer, a PR executive, a non-profit communications manager, a full-time working mom, a part-time working mom, and a stay-at-home mom. Currently, I’m a part-time dance teacher, non-profit Board president, and write-from-home mom who’s building a brand and occasionally taps in her kitchen. Everything comes full circle.

I’m married with two teen- and tween-aged boys, a Boston terrier named Gertrude, and a pug named Skittles. When I created the Runaway Mama, my kids were 3 and 18-months old, and as you can probably imagine, I often fantasized about running away. In the beginning, I wrote for my sanity. Motherhood during the baby/toddler years was daunting. Writing helped me process the crazy and feel a sense of purpose.

Today, motherhood is still overwhelming, but the struggle is vastly different. I’m starting to understand expressions like, “The days are long but the years are short,” and, “Little kids, little problems. Big kids, big problems.”

Eventually, I’ll be the sweaty, menopausal woman who walks up to you in the grocery store while your crying baby is pooping up the back and your tantruming toddler is licking the floor and says, “Enjoy every moment because it goes by fast!” You’ll want to punch me in the face, and I’ll understand.

Until that unfortunate encounter, my goal is to uplift and entertain you with essays, memes, and other social media nonsense with a mixture of humor and heart as I plow ahead at full speed on this wild ride of motherhood into adolescence and (gulp) beyond.

  1. The most important job in the world reminded me of a Bill Burr bit about it being the most difficult job in the world. It’s a funny bit, no insult intended!

I blog for the same reason- to try to make sense of it. I find that whenever I’m done writing about my family I love them all over again.
