On The Run: March 2016

Hey Mamas,

God forbid you miss anything I write, think, or utter under my breath, I have links here to everything I’ve done in March.

I let my boys play hooky! True story. Read “Playing Hooky” here.

See what happens when three moms make three different decisions with their sons standing outside of a karate class at the local YMCA. Psst! One of them is me! Read “The Best Decision Moms Can Make” here.

How do I connect with sons offline if I don’t want to connect with them online? This piece has lots of good ideas on how to communicate with boys. Read “Connecting With Boys Offline in an Online World” here.

We celebrated a birthday. My little guy is #thisis7 and he’s #oneofakind and #mybaby. Read “#thisis7” here.

Syndication is crucial in the blogging world. It’s an awesome way to introduce work to new readers, and I got three amazing opportunities this month. My essays, Unpacking a Former Life and The Best Decision Moms Can Make,” were featured on Coffee Table Confessions, and my essay, The Letter From School I Never Expected,” was featured on BLUNTmoms. Happy dance!

And finally…

FROM THE VAULT: March 6th would have been Harry’s 11th birthday. I present, “A Letter To My Dog,” an essay I wrote in March 2013 on Harry’s 8th birthday. It was a letter of gratitude, and I had no idea when I wrote it that we would lose him to cancer in the same year. You can read it here.

Happy reading!

On The Run: February 2016

Hey Mamas,

God forbid you miss anything I write, think, or utter under my breath, I have links here to everything I’ve done in February.

I dipped my toes in the world of investigative reporting. Have you been to Chuck E. Cheese’s lately?

I was published on The Good Men Project for the first time with a short and sweet (and carbonated!) piece called “The ‘Root’ of My Dad” about my dad and the kind of parent he’s inspired me to become.

Do you have a kid who would rather eat worms than wear a coat? If so, “The Runaway Mama’s Guide to Getting Your Kid to Wear a Coat!” is a must read.

I was published on Hyperbolistic.com twice. Forget about the Oscars! I’m winning some epic parenting awards (with some kick-ass graphics). Let’s face it, if you’re a parent, you’re a hypocrite. (It’s okay. It’s in the job description.)

Sammiches and Psych Meds included me in their weekly “Funniest Parents on Facebook” round-up.

What’s the deal with boys and pants?! I’m putting in my two cents over at Sammiches and Psych Meds.

I get a lot of correspondence from the kids’ school. Here’s an essay about the letter from school I never expected.

And finally…

FROM THE VAULT: When dreams were big and escalators were “escavators.” I present “Priceless,” an essay I wrote in March 2012.

Happy Leap Day! Happy reading!
