When I started writing this blog, I set out to find meaning in my everyday life that pretty much revolves around my kids. Recently, I’ve done a few things that have made me feel happy, proud and grateful all at once. I guess it’s a little bit like a bucket list, except so far I’ve discovered the value of these activities after they happen instead of planning them ahead of time. Maybe it’s better this way. There’s no disappointment or expectations, just surprise and joy.
So, here it is…my Runaway Mama Bucket List (so far):
1. I made a cake from scratch for my husband’s birthday (and mine, too…our birthdays are one day apart). It was so satisfying to make something from nothing but flour, sugar and butter…a lot of butter. The boys weren’t that interested in the baking part, but they definitely liked the eating part.
2. We’ve had a lot of rain here lately, especially in the afternoons. After Riley’s naps, I take the boys for walks around the neighborhood and let them jump in puddles. It’s such a simple pleasure, for them splashing and me watching.
3. I ran a 5K yesterday – my first in more than four years – and my kids watched me cross the finish line. Watching them watch me do something for me was amazing.
